I have done this task to get an understanding of the different conventions which are associated with the sci-fi genre specifically. This is so, when I create the film poster for my short film, I can incorporate these conventions and make it closer to industry quality.

From doing this task, I know what some of the conventions of film posters are, as well as specific conventions of sci-fi posters. Many of the posters have the title of the film quite large on the page, and it usually clashes with the background, in order to make it stand out more for an audience. The posters usually have bright colours within it, in order to make particular aspects of the poster stand out. The actors and actress' names are also included, with certain actors names sometimes being larger than others, or being the only name in some cases. This is as some actors are more well known than others, so making their name more noticeable will attract those who like them. The billing block is common with all film posters, as well as a slogan that links to the film, which is usually memorable and reveals an aspect of the plot. Reviews of the film are sometimes included, as well as a shot of the main characters of the film. Establishing shots are sometimes used to engage the audience in the interesting setting. The film that the director was last involved is also included to attract those who enjoyed the directors previous film.
